Franco Nero stars as the eponymous anti-hero in this Spaghetti Western directed by Sergio Corbucci. Django, a former Union soldier, arrives in a border ghost town dragging a coffin behind him. He becomes involved in the conflict between a band of Mexican revolutionaries and a merciless group of soldiers led by Major Jackson (Eduardo Fajardo), a racist former Confederate officer, when he rescues María (Loredana Nusciak), a prostitute, from their clutches.

When a plot to steal gold from Jackson leads him into trouble, will Django choose María and freedom or continue on his violent and bloody path?
